The Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Tanzania), together with the African Ministers Council on Water (AMCOW) Secretariat, is organizing the 6th Africa Water Week to be held at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam from 18th – 22nd July, 2016. The Tanzania Water Partnership has been coopted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as one of the lead institutions constituting the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the 6th Africa Water Week. Several members of TWP are part of the NOC.
The Africa Water Week is convened by Africa Union in conjunction with Development Partners. It is held biennially thus representing a political commitment at the highest level –both at the national, regional and continental levels. The event is normally attended by close to a thousand delegates from government, regional institutions, development partners, the private sector, the scientific and research community, civil society, and the media from all over the world, and in particular Africa. These delegates meet to discuss and collectively seek solutions to Africa’s challenges on water resources and sanitation.
The event will include exhibitions, side events, technical, and plenary sessions. The main outcome of the 6th Africa Water Week is a roadmap for developing a comprehensive plan of action for implementation of the SDG 6 in the water sector and have immediate translation of the high-level commitments, including the N’gor Declaration on Water Security and Sanitation, into practical implementation pathways at country, sub-regional and continental levels.
